The Best Places to Move in 2020

Moving House and Lockdown

The housing market is the busiest it has been in decades with a rush to move to a happier home before the end of the stamp duty holiday next year. With lockdown only highlighting the issues we already may have had with our current homes it is more important than ever to find the perfect place. At the start of the year The Times and mortgage broker Habito highlighted their top areas to move to in the UK. We have had a look through their list and have come up with our favorites.

Leith, Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s Leith, a former port district, was voted the best place to live in Scotland in 2020. Historically Leith hasn’t had the best reputation but in recent years it has had a huge resurgence and is now one of the trendiest places to live in the capital. Author Irvine Welsh dubbed it “the sexiest place in the world” and with credentials like that who wouldn’t want to live there!

Cromarty, The Highlands

Voted the top place to live in the Highlands, Cromarty is a pretty former fishing town in the north of the Black Isle peninsula. The town itself is full of history with many of its old buildings converted into modern attractions and Cromarty’s shores are home to lots of marine wildlife including dolphins, porpoises and seals. Nestled in the heart of the Highlands with the stunning scenery of the Black Isle and in close proximity to Inverness we aren’t surprised Cromarty is such a sought after place to live.

Dundee

Dundee has not always had the best reputation but in recent years and with the architectural triumph of the V&A it has made a startling comeback. Dundee was ranked five for ‘Worldwide Hot Destinations’ by The Wall Street Journal and it was named one of the Lonely Planet’s top 10 cities. It is a modern and vibrant place with lots to do and most importantly, housing is affordable. Dundee definitely ticks all the boxes for a busy young family.

Ranmoor, Sheffield

Voted one of the top places to live in the North, Ranmoor is a suburb of Sheffield comprising of the sort after S11 and S10 postcodes. Pretty tree lined streets and large houses can be found in affluent Ranmoor, part of the Fullwood area of the city. Surrounded by green spaces and bordering the Peak District Ranmoor is a firm favourite for families moving to or within the City of Sheffield.
