Insurance
For the most part, removal companies insure themselves. Their liability cover is there to protect the remover, but that doesn’t help you.
At Clockwork Removals & Storage, we have a different approach and offer you the option to take out insurer-backed cover that keeps your belongings and move date protected.

Removals and Storage Policy
Also known as Goods in Transit and Storage Insurance, our Removals and Storage Policy fully covers your belongings throughout the moving and storage process.
Please note that Goods in Transit cover applies while your belongings are being moved and in transit. If you require cover while your belongings are in storage, you will need to add Storage Insurance to your policy.
It is underwritten by a specialist insurer. If you ever need to make a claim, Clockwork will provide the initial claim form to get you started. From there, the insurance company will work directly with you. Your household insurance claims record is not affected, and you have the right to take any unresolved dispute to the Financial Ombudsman if needed.
Without this cover, only limited liability applies and is capped at a maximum of £40 per item regardless of its value.
How it Works
- Add the policy when you get your quote
- Your belongings are covered from collection through to delivery, plus any time in storage if Storage Insurance has been added If you need to make a claim, contact our team in the first instance
- We will send you a claim form and the insurer will then work with you directly from there
As a member of the British Association of Removers (BAR), we are also registered with The Furniture and Home Improvement Ombudsman (FHIO). The FHIO provides an impartial and independent dispute resolution service for any consumer complaints that we are unable to resolve directly. This offers you complete peace of mind. You can be confident that you are using a reputable, professional, and safe removal company, with protection against unfair practices and access to an independent body should the unlikely happen.

International Moves
If you are moving abroad, we offer the same Removals and Storage Policy alongside specialist Marine Transit Insurance. This is designed specifically for the additional risks that come with international shipping and air freight. Rates are competitive and cover is extensive, so your belongings are protected for the full journey.
As with UK moves, contact our team in the first instance to begin a claim. We will send you a claim form and the insurer will work directly with you from there.

Optional Waivers
Alongside our insurance, we offer two optional waivers that cover the practical, and unfortunately common, things that can go wrong on moving day or in the run-up to it.
Cancellation and Postponement Waiver
Conveyancing rarely runs to schedule. If your move is cancelled or postponed at short notice due to delays in the conveyancing process, our Cancellation and Postponement Waiver protects you against the cancellation charges that would otherwise apply. Without it, standard cancellation fees apply on a sliding scale based on the notice given.
Waiting Time Waiver
If access to your new property is delayed on the day of your move due to a late key handover or another third-party issue, our Waiting Time Waiver covers the additional charges that would otherwise apply. Without it, an hourly waiting rate is charged for the time our team is on standby.
A Note on Liability Products
Some removals companies offer products described as Extended Liability or Standard Liability. These are not insurance. They are contractual liability products with legal terms that can leave you significantly out of pocket if something goes wrong. We only offer genuine, insurer-backed cover.
If you have been quoted a liability product elsewhere and want to understand the difference, get in touch today and we will walk you through it.
FAQs
Do I have to take out insurance?
No. Insurance is optional. If you choose not to take it out, your belongings are covered only by limited liability, capped at £40 per item. This rarely reflects what your belongings are actually worth, which is why most customers choose to add the policy.
Does making a claim affect my household insurance?
No. The Removals and Storage Policy is completely separate from your household insurance. Making a claim will not affect your record.
How do I make a claim?
If you need to make a claim, get in touch with our team in the first instance. We will send you a claim form and the insurer will then work with you directly from there.
What if my move is cancelled or postponed?
If you have added the Cancellation and Postponement Waiver to your quote, you are covered against the charges that would otherwise apply. Without it, standard cancellation fees are charged on a sliding scale based on how much notice we receive.
What happens if there is a delay with the keys on the day?
If you have taken the Waiting Time Waiver, you will not be charged for delays caused by third-party issues such as a late key handover. Without the waiver, an hourly waiting charge applies for the time our crew is on standby.
What if I am moving abroad?
We offer both our standard Removals and Storage Policy and specialist Marine Transit Insurance for international moves. The same claims process applies and you still have recourse to the Financial Ombudsman if needed.
What is the difference between insurance and liability cover?
Insurance is backed by a regulated insurer and gives you the right to claim on the actual value of your belongings. Liability cover is a contractual arrangement that only covers the remover’s legal liability, usually within strict limits. If something goes wrong, the legal process for disputing a liability claim is more complex and can leave customers significantly worse off.
