Moving to Surrey: An Area Guide

Moving to Surrey: An Area Guide

Leaving London

The Covid-19 pandemic triggered changes to how and where people are buying property, generating a London property exodus. With this “outmigration” trend set to continue we are focusing on the areas our customers are choosing to move home and the beautiful county of Surrey is top of a lot of Londoner’s lists.

Surrey boasts some truly rural landscapes while still lying firmly within the London commuter belt. The North Downs spread across Surrey right on into Kent and within it are the Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. So with all this stunning scenery where would you like to move to in Surrey? Here are our top three!

Guildford

First off is Guildford, only 27 miles from London boasting great transport links with regular trains to London Waterloo. The town’s architecture is early 20th century but there are a few areas with beautiful Georgian properties as well as lots of new build developments. The most sought after areas include Pewley Down, Pewley Hills and Burpham.

Due to Guildford’s popularity with families you can be sure to find some fantastic schools with a number of reputable independent schools and the renowned Charterhouse School only 20 minutes away. The pretty cobbled streets of the town centre offer everything you could ask for in a bustling market town with independent stores, artisan shops and luxury boutiques.

Cobham

Cobham is a quintessential home counties village just 17 miles from London. Previously three villages all rolled into one, Cobham is the perfect balance between rural landscapes and local amenities with independent shops and quaint country pubs dotted throughout this supersized village.

Boasting a whopping 10 primary schools and a mix of independent and state secondary schools the area certainly has all your children’s educational needs covered! With easy access to the M25 and a direct train route to London Waterloo from the local station, Cobham also has great transport links for commuters too.

Windlesham

Windlesham is a beautiful little village just 25 miles from London. If you are in search of village life then look no further, it has a thriving village community with lots of social events. Windlesham is full of stunning period properties, that said, they do come with a hefty price tag!

The area has a number of outstanding schools and there are several train stations, a short drive away, providing direct train routes to London Waterloo. The privately owned arboretum and expansive green spaces offer a compete contrast to the busy capital, the perfect place to escape the city.
