The Best Books for Emigrating With Kids

Posted on by Clockwork.Removals

Making the MoveInternational moving

Emigrating to another country or continent is a daunting experience and in this world of increased globalisation more and more families are making a move, whether it is for work or a better quality of life. Though it is an exciting time, we understand that children can be most affected by this upheaval and experts suggest it is best to teach them about their new nation before you even leave. With this in mind here are some of our favourite books for helping children who are on the move.

Amelia’s Fantastic Flight by Rose Bursik – This book is a relaxed and fun way to teach children about maps, the world and the many destinations within it. Amelia’s flight takes her to 14 countries throughout the six continents and we would particularly recommend it if you are emigrating far away, crossing many continents and countries during your travels.

Sammy’s Next Move by Helen Maffini – This is a sweet little tale about a snail named Sammy who is a “Third Culture Kid” and is always on the move. Sammy’s Next Move teaches children about changing schools and making new friends in foreign lands whilst always maintaining the belief that home is where their heart is.

Buddy in New Zealand by Nazneen Bustani – If you are a family emigrating to New Zealand this book is a must. Say the magic words and go off on an adventure with Buddy and his best friend Peggy. Join them whilst they meet some new friends and discover the stunning landscape, diverse wildlife and the traditional Maori culture of New Zealand.

All about America: Facts & Fun by Fran Newman-D’Amico – Bursting with activities and facts, this book will really help your children learn about the geography, history and culture of their new home. Help your children explore and learn about the United States by working out mazes, guessing crosswords, studying find-the-difference puzzles and following the dot-to-dots.

M is for Maple: A Canadian Alphabet by Michael Ulmer – With flowing rhyming text and beautiful illustrations throughout, this book is perfect for teaching your little one about the national symbols, history and people of Canada. Let them learn about everything from the cities of Toronto and Victoria to the province of Quebec and the rugged Rocky Mountains.
